Journal notes, news and photo documentaries - all in one place.

A community remembers
Histon Road is about to see changes: a new carriageway and junctions, new houses and the reduction of vegetation. A small group of local people has been capturing memories of the old days when the road had different shops and businesses, spacious allotments, orchards and a simpler way of life.

Strawberry fair
Held on Midsummer Common in the heart of Cambridge, Strawberry Fair is a modern echo of the ancient Stourbridge Common Fair. To the majority of attendees, the fair is a single Saturday in June—they show up, celebrate, and go home. But as a past committee member, I know that the narrative begins in early Autumn. My goal with this project was to document the week of labor required to transform the common and the pristine restoration that follows. This is a celebration of ‘Town’ rather than ‘Gown’—a look at the community that builds a city landmark from the ground up.

Nighttime Documentary
I've been documenting the roadworks on Histon Rd for 18 months so a chance to take some photos of the nighttime tarmacing operation was irresistible even if it was freezing.

A Night Time Choir Rehearsal
I recently got the opportunity to photograph a choir rehearsal at Trinity College Chapel. I have visited Trinity College, Cambridge on a number of occasions, it is a short walk from our house, however, I had never visited the chapel. The rehearsal was in the evening, and we were still in winter. It was going to be dark!
