Privacy notice

What personal information this website collects, why, and what you can ask me to do with it. In short: I collect as little as I can, the site uses no tracking cookies, and I never sell your details or share them for marketing.

Who I am

This website belongs to Faruk Kara, a photographer based in Cambridge, UK. I am responsible for the personal information collected here (the "controller" under UK data protection law).

For any privacy question or request, use the contact form on this site [[or email ADDRESS TO CONFIRM]].

What I collect and why

When you send me a message

  • The contact form sends me your name, email address and message so that I can reply. It arrives by email and is not stored on the website.
  • I use it to answer your enquiry and, if we work together, to arrange that work. I keep enquiries for as long as needed for that [[and for up to two years after our last contact — TO CONFIRM]].

When you leave a comment

  • The comment form asks for a display name and your comment. It does not ask for your email address.
  • I read every comment before it appears. Once approved, your display name and comment are public on that page, so use a first name or nickname if you prefer.
  • Comments are stored in Sanity, the service that holds this website’s content. Comments I do not approve are never published [[and are deleted after six months — TO CONFIRM]].
  • To have a comment removed, send me a message with the page and the name you used.

Keeping the forms free of spam

When you send a message or comment, your IP address is held for about 10 minutes to stop repeated submissions, then deleted automatically. It is not stored with your message or comment.

Cookies

This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and does not follow you around the web. That is why there is no cookie banner. If that changes, I will update this page first.

Services that help run the site

A few companies handle personal information for me, only to provide their service and only on my instructions:

  • Cloudflare hosts the website and runs its forms. It processes technical information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
  • Sanity stores the website’s content, including comments.
  • Resend delivers contact-form messages and new-comment alerts to my email.

Some of these companies process information outside the UK. When they do, they use the safeguards UK law requires, such as approved contract terms.

Your rights

You can ask me to:

  • tell you what personal information I hold about you, and give you a copy
  • correct it if it is wrong
  • delete it, for example a comment you posted
  • stop using it, or object to how I use it

Send your request through the contact form and I will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Changes to this notice

I will update this page when anything here changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
